The road to beauty is one of diminishing returns. You can slap on creams, head off on your morning jogs and wear more makeup than a Moulin Rouge dancer. But when the icy figure of age grabs you by the shoulders, trying to ward off wrinkles is about as likely as holding back the tides.

Just imagine if King Canute, the guy who tried to whip away the ocean, had modern technology today. He’d have tried some hi-tech dam or futuristic construction to keep the tides at bay. Although you shouldn’t mimic his foolishness, you’ve got to admire this mad king’s resourcefulness. Take a leaf out of his book and try a few paths less travelled in your search for beautiful skin. For a start, try a few of these tips.

Deny that double chin
The double chin comes to all of us when we’ve been slovenly. It’s a sign of too much rich living, fine foods and scrumptious cream cakes. You can forget once on the lips, a lifetime on the hips – it’s your chin that’ll really show the effects.

But fear not! Knowing how to get rid of double chin is simple. There are ointments, potions and lotions that give you tighter skin, hiding face fat until your diet is back under control. While we’d recommend exercise to truly get thinner, these creams can be an excellent aid.

Go for zero pollutants
Pick up a cheap body wash or shampoo and your skin will be covered in lathering chemicals and unnecessary gelling agents. And even though you might not notice, they’re putting your skin under duress.

Indeed, prolonged use of cheap products will leave your pores drier than the Gobi desert and your hair as well-nourished as an anorexic.

Instead, vie for all-natural, chemical free shampoos and body washes that will clean your hair without wearing it down. Cut down on chemicals and you’ll have a nutrient-filled body that will look younger for longer.

Water me up
Have you ever met the type of person who exclusively drinks Diet Coke? They become like addicts to the stuff, downing it by the gallon – and feeling the effects.

They’ll suffer pasty skin and more spots than a leopard. You don’t want to become one of them. For fantastic skin, drink an average of eight glasses of water a day. The increase in blood circulation from your H2O will give your skin a radiant glow. Never underestimate a glass of the clear stuff – it’ll make you look ace.

Admittedly, you don’t have to cut out your junk drink entirely. Set aside one day a week where you can treat yourself to a bottle of coke – you’ll savour it all the more.
