Simple ways to reduce pain

submitted on 12 November 2014
Pain is a constant in the life of many people today, as it always has been. This has a lot to do with our lifestyles, but also the simple truth is that we are living longer, and through human history fewer of us lived even past 50. That is not to say 100 years ago we were dropping off the perch at 40 (low life expectancy figures were as a result of infant mortality rates primarily), but 50,000 years ago, when we were hunters and hunted, old age was a significant life risk factor. Nowadays, when we are not sitting for hours at a stretch in front of a computer, we are sitting for hours or behind the steering or on the bus. Add these to a history of arthritis, or lift one or two overly heavy things along the way, and you will find yourself battling with pain. Thankfully, there are natural ways to reduce pain.

Reducing back and neck pain
The back and neck are often affected by pain. This is because with every movement, your spine is bent and there is squishing and compressing of the discs between the bones. With too much pressure on the spinal discs, a part may bulge out, pressing on any of the 50 nerves in the spinal cord. This will lead to inflammation of that nerve, signalling the brain to register pain. To handle the pain around this region, here is what you have to do.

Take Vitamin B12
This supplement aids in subsiding back pain by making it possible for the body to develop further protective coating around your nerves. This will make it less likely that the nerves get inflamed and lead to pain. You only need 1-2mg of this daily to help.

Use capsaicin cream
This cream blocks the pain impulses in your nerves. Rub a decent amount onto your neck and back for relief. Apply this three times a day if dealing with chronic pain. Two sprays of the capsaicin have been proven to help stop headaches so it is definitely worth a go. The cream gives off a burning sensation so you need to be mindful of the parts of the body you use it on.

Reducing Joint Pain
The joints are the most common site of pain as individuals get older. This is because with old age, the smooth surfaces in the joint roughen as cartilage diminishes. This leads to friction and ultimately pain. Here are some tips to deal with joint pain.

Use Indian frankincense
This herbal extract is also known as Boswellia extract, it fights joint pain by reducing cartilage damage. It can be found in most health stores but you need to make sure you only purchase extracts with a concentration of at least 40% if you are to enjoy the benefits.

Use Gel Heel Cups
Gel heel cups by sturdyfoot.com have been proven to help fight pain in the lower back and limbs. They are a scientifically designed cushion that can be worn in your shoes, and the mechanism elevates your heel, alleviating and preventing reoccurrence of most forms of lower limb and joint pains.

Take powdered ginger
The great benefits of ginger are frequently documented. Ginger contains oils that are efficient in the reduction of inflammation at sites of joint pain. Add a half-teaspoon of powdered ginger to hot water or any liquid of your choice and drink it for 7 days. Alternatively, you can take a ginger tablet or capsule every day.

With these tips, you may be able to alleviate the major forms of pain you experience on a daily basis.
